Recap: Norwest Bulls Junior Rugby – Our First Rugby Club Media Day
At Logan James Creative, we’ve been fortunate to work with some of the most iconic basketball clubs across Sydney, but this month marked a new milestone—our very first rugby club media day. The Norwest Bulls Junior Rugby Club invited us to capture their annual team and player portraits, and we couldn’t have been more excited to bring our creative vision into a new sporting code.
Over the course of one packed day, we photographed over 300 junior players, ranging from U6s all the way through to U18s. With such a huge number of players and teams, this shoot came with its fair share of logistical challenges—but we were up for it.
A Media Day With a Twist
Instead of a traditional on-field shoot, we flipped the script and set up at The Fiddler Pub in Rouse Hill, transforming the venue’s function rooms into a fully operational photo studio. With lighting rigs, backdrop setups, and a tight schedule, every square metre was put to use. Shooting in a hospitality venue might seem unconventional, but it gave us control over the environment—critical when working with players across so many different age groups.
From wrangling large team groups to keeping the energy up with the littlest legends of the U6s, our team worked closely with Norwest Bulls' amazing club volunteers to keep the day flowing smoothly. We leaned on our experience shooting large-scale basketball media days to make this shoot a success—adapting our systems, setups, and creative direction to fit the club’s needs and rugby’s unique culture.
Bringing Our Style to Rugby
What made this shoot special was the chance to bring our signature portrait style—high contrast, sharp, and full of attitude—to a whole new sport. While we tailored the creative to feel authentic to rugby, we stayed true to the Logan James Creative look: clean lighting, confident poses, and images that parents and players will be proud to hang on their walls.
As always, our goal was to go beyond standard sports photos. We wanted to capture the character of each player, from the wide-eyed rookies to the senior squad leaders, and we’re proud of the results.
